本片改编自以山田风太郎的同名小说，由讲述为了解开里见家施加的诅咒而被命运吸引的8名年轻剑士们的战斗的《虚》，以及描写用28年时间写了180话的故事的作家泷泽马琴的真实故事的《实》两部分组成。役所广司饰演主人公马琴，内野圣阳饰演他的好友画家葛饰北斋。矶村勇斗马琴的儿子宗伯，黑木华宗伯的妻子·路，马寺岛忍饰演马琴的妻子·百，在《虚》部分掌握八犬士命运的伏姬由土屋出演。。澳大利亚男演员保罗·霍根([鳄鱼邓迪]系列)将出演新片[杰出的邓迪先生](The Very Excellent Mr Dundee，暂译)。迪恩·墨菲([查理和布茨])执导并担任制片。近年来鲜少在影视作品中亮相的保罗·霍根将在片中再度饰演著名的“邓迪先生”。影片下月在澳大利亚、洛杉矶、温哥华拍摄。。The first time Sarah tries drugs is the first time she goes out with Tim, who was a customer of hers in the Dew Drop Inn Cafe. Tom is sweet and cool and after one night, she moves in with him| leaving behind her alcoholic mother and younger sister, Karen. For a while life is great and drugs are just part of the deal and most of the fun. But then things start getting complicated...。
