零售公司的售票员李勇和百货公司的收款员赵惠在参加先进工作者会议的途中发生了撞车事故，两人由此相识，并相爱，结成了夫妻。赵惠的同事马美娜和李勇的同事张士禄都认为做售货员一点出息也没有，马美娜一心想找个理想的爱人，并借此调动工作。在一次舞会上，她认识了自称是人事科长的张士禄，他们很快由恋爱到结婚。马美娜沾沾自喜，直到结婚典礼上，因为要请人事科长讲话，张士禄的假面目被揭穿了，马美娜才知道，张士禄和她一样是个售货员。她觉得自己上当受骗了，并由此和张士禄产生了矛盾。最后，在李勇和赵惠的批评和帮助下，他们终于认清了自己的错误思想，决定不计前嫌，共同步入满好生活。
