1941年日寇对我抗日根据地进行疯狂大扫荡，在一场场对敌斗争中，英勇的平山团让敌人闻风丧胆。驻扎在平山县一带的日寇为了削弱平山团的战斗力量、打击平山团的战斗意志，将矛头对准了平山团战士们的家园。南滚龙村的儿童团团长王二小是个倔强调皮的孩子王。一天，敌人扫荡了南滚龙村，二小的家被毁了。失去亲人的痛苦让王二小一蹶不振，他的好朋友核桃、枣花，还有其他西柏坡村的孩子想方设法安慰二小，给他鼓劲。二小重新振作起来，和大家一起劳动、练兵、重建家园。进山抓八路军伤员的日本鬼子在山里迷了路，被二小和枣花发现。为了给乡亲们和八路军伤员争取时间转移，二小和枣花兵分两路，由枣花回西柏坡村报信，二小则故意暴露自己，被敌人抓住。在给敌人带路时，二小故意走陡峭山路、兜圈子， 最后把敌人引进了八路军的伏击圈。日本鬼子被消灭了，二小也壮烈牺牲了……。For Joseph, a young lawyer from Manhattan, his first excursion to Fire Island is far from what he had in mind.
