19世纪初，法国亚库-贝里格某乡村。清秀懂事的少年雅克和爸爸妈妈生活在一间破旧的小木屋中。某天，厄运突然降临。雅克的爸爸失手杀死南萨克伯爵的管家，因此遭到通缉。妈妈虽然亲自前往伯爵处求情，反令伯爵变本加厉，提高赏金。未过多久，雅克的爸爸被捕落网，更悲惨地死于刑期中，妈妈也悲恨交加，最终撒手人寰。沦为孤儿的雅克被好心的波纳神父。时光荏苒，雅克成长为英气逼人的青年，他和美丽的女孩莉娜萌生纯洁的爱情，同时也要携手共同经历波澜壮阔的人生……
