剧集改编自江波户哲夫的同名小说，福山雅治将扮演一个银行职员，被调任到即将废部的银行分部后，也继续努力奋斗的故事。本剧也是二人继《龙马传》9年之后的首度共演。。凌儿和危开是同门习武的师兄妹，两人朝夕相处，渐生情愫。然而，这段美好的感情却触犯了师门戒律，两人的师父盛掩光不顾众人劝阻，执意要对他们从严发落，这也就意味着，凌儿和危开将双双殒命于断头台。
