该剧讲述了在一个叫幸福镇的小城里，一户普通家庭苏家在生活中，喜怒哀乐的故事。。繁华大都市，夜幕降临，华灯初上。在一户普通人家，两位老人坐在餐桌旁看着他们的宝贝孙子念念。念念双手托腮，愁眉苦脸地望着眼前的蛋糕，他多么希望爸爸妈妈能陪他一起过生日，可是等到很晚都没等来父母。与此同时，念念的爸妈正在回来的路上，他们坐在汽车里互相埋怨，妈妈抱怨爸爸忘记孩子的生日，每年都给孩子送同一个礼物，也失约去动物园的约定，爸爸则则拿繁忙的工作当借口。十点钟他们回到家里，孩子早已进入梦乡。
