节目采用纪实拍摄形式，深入挖掘八家“承载着不同群体生存和生活方式”的小店背后的故事，以百味交织、切实可感的人物故事，还原人生百态，致敬城市精神。节目不仅记录上海小店的烟火气，多元的城市样态，更重要的是，捕捉这些小店能够在上海生存，发展，甚至是做大做强的精神内核。
