军队长官普瑞特（Darren Dalton 饰）夜间执行任务，抓到两个具有人类体貌特征的男性（Bug Hall 饰）和女性（Sinead McCafferty 饰）机器人。普瑞特连夜审问，却未得到任何线索。不久，女性机器人向善良的士兵麦伦（C. Thomas Howell 饰）吐露了入侵地球的原因：原来拥有高等智慧的外星人始终在观察地球，当它们发现人类过度发展毁灭性武器，并且已经威胁到地球的安全之时，外星人决定采取行动，或者眼看着地球毁灭，或者毁灭人类以拯救这颗美丽的星球……。
