1992年南斯拉夫内战前夕，塞尔维亚工程师卢卡（Slavko Stimac 饰）为了修建一条旅游线路，带着痴迷歌剧的老婆嘉德兰卡（Vesna Trivalic 饰）和梦想成为足球运动员的儿子米罗（Vuk Kostic 饰）来到波斯尼亚地区的山上安营扎寨。卢卡不去理会妻子的抱怨和战争的传闻，一心投入线路的设计中。
不久，战争爆发，米罗应征入伍，而嘉德兰卡也不堪忍受乡间的生活与情人私奔，失意的卢卡在隆隆炮火中等待着妻儿的归来。偶然机会，卢卡从士兵手中救下穆族女子撒巴哈（Natasa Solak 饰）。原本打算将其作为交换被俘虏的儿子的砝码，但卢卡却渐渐与撒巴哈产生了感情……
