本故事发生在清朝末年，靖王爷（徐连升 饰）为救爱女（朱亚娜 饰）性命，不得不病急乱投医，找来了沧州的乡下郎中喜来乐（李保田 饰）。没想到被宫里太医王天和（杜雨露 饰）断为绝症的格格，喜来乐竟用奇招救活。喜来乐本是与世无争，根本不想留在京城这个是非之地，但天意弄人，靖王爷不但用计把他留下，更是把他全家老小和沧州的“一笑堂”搬来京城。从此一向目中无人的王太医就与喜来乐结下了梁子，屡屡对喜来乐暗下毒手。命大的喜来乐不仅每每躲过暗算，更是凭借自创的偏方怪招在京城获得了神医的名号。靖王爷为了让喜来乐安心留在京城，更是把他在沧州的老相好寡妇赛西施（沈傲君 饰）和她的店“食为天”搬到了“一笑堂”的对面。喜来乐爱吃醋的老婆胡氏（梁丽 饰）本就是个不好惹的母老虎，赛西施的到来，更是惹得他们全家每天鸡犬不宁。喜来乐的名气越来越大，甚至得到了皇帝和慈禧的赏识，王太医也加紧了陷害他的脚步，前方等待喜来乐一家人的究竟是什么呢？。在漫画般繁华的加利利市住着一群“天台人”，他们居住在城市建筑的天台上过着清贫快乐的生活。浪子膏、黑轮、蛋花、花椰菜就是其中几个爱耍帅善良的天台少年，他们从小被茉莉姐养大，在波爷的医药馆里打工。由于黑轮在黑社会性质的“市居会”帮助雷哥收租得罪了同僚红毛，至此牵连了几个好友。同时浪子膏巧遇了心仪已久的女明星心艾并与之日久生情，而心艾的老板威少因为嫉妒从中挑拨，并与红毛联手对付浪子膏一伙，引发了一场腥风血雨的争斗。关键时刻面对爱人和朋友浪子膏做出了一个重大的抉择。。Greece, in the 1920's, is occupied by the Turks. The country is in turmoil with entire villages uprooted. The site of the movie is a Greek village that conducts a passion play each year. The leading citizens of the town, under the auspices of the Patriarch, choose those that will play the parts in the Passion. A stuttering shepherd is chosen to play Jesus. The town butcher (who wanted to be Jesus) is chosen as Judas. The town prostitute is chosen as Mary Magdalene. The rest of the disciples are also chosen. As the movie unfolds, the Passion Play becomes a reality. A group of villagers, uprooted by the war and impoverished, arrive at the village led by their priest. The wealthier citizens of the town want nothing with these people and manipulate a massacre. In the context of the 1920's each of the characters plays out their biblical role in actuality.。
