The film tells the story of three people for a year: a son (Magimel) diagnosed with cancer, a mother (Deneuve) suffering from helplessness and a doctor (Cécile de France) to do her job: One year and four seasons for these three characters to deal with the disease, to tame it, and to understand what it means to die while alive.。故事的背景设定在宾夕法尼亚的Banshee镇，前罪犯Lucas Hood拿到了Banshee警长的身份，取代他成为了执法者。一方面，他用他新的合法身份继续秘密地犯罪，另一方面，他在来到小镇之前，曾经得罪的黑帮暴徒，誓要将他碎尸万段，他希望暴徒能够永远找不到他。。
