Med Hondo uses this tracking shot to establish the sett...。故事发生在第二次世界大战刚刚结束之际，卡罗尔（埃琳诺·帕克 Eleanor Parker 饰）和保罗（让-皮埃尔·奥蒙特 Jean-Pierre Aumont 饰）的外遇恋情被卡罗尔的丈夫沃尔特（比尔·特拉弗斯 Bill Travers 饰）发现了，沃尔特给了卡罗尔两个选择，要么和他一起前往位于中国的一个非常偏僻的村庄之中，那里霍乱横行，要么就离婚。最终，卡罗尔在无奈之中和沃尔特一起上路了。 在中国，卡罗尔结识了自由不羁的提姆（乔治·桑德斯 George Sanders 饰），并且通过他在修道院里谋了一份差事，卡罗尔和沃尔特之间的感情也随着时间的推移而渐渐修复，一切都看似在往井井有条的方向发展，可是，在这个节骨眼上，沃尔特染上瘟疫去世了，与此同时，卡罗尔发现自己怀孕了。。
